The health and well-being of our students is of paramount importance at G. P. S. Roorkee. These guidelines are established to ensure a safe, healthy environment and to outline procedures for managing student health concerns. We request full cooperation from parents/guardians in adhering to these guidelines.
General Health & Hygiene
- Encourage your child to maintain good personal hygiene, including regular handwashing.
- Ensure your child gets adequate sleep, a balanced diet, and regular physical activity.
- Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell, especially with fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or any contagious condition.
Procedure for Illness at School
- If a student becomes ill at school, they will be cared for temporarily in the school's infirmary/sick bay.
- Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately to pick up their child. Please ensure your contact information is always up-to-date with the school office.
- In case of minor injuries, first aid will be administered. For more serious injuries, parents will be notified, and if necessary, the student may be taken to the nearest medical facility.
Medication Policy
The school staff is generally not permitted to administer medication to students. However, for students requiring essential, prescribed medication during school hours:
- A written request from the parent/guardian and a doctor's prescription (clearly stating dosage, timing, and duration) must be submitted to the school office/nurse.
- Medication must be in its original container, clearly labeled with the student's name, medication name, and dosage.
- Students are not permitted to carry medication on their person, except for emergency medications like asthma inhalers, with prior explicit permission and documentation.
Self-administration of medication by students is strictly prohibited without specific documented approval for conditions like asthma or severe allergies (e.g., EpiPen).
Management of Contagious/Infectious Diseases
- Students with contagious diseases (e.g., chickenpox, measles, mumps, conjunctivitis, flu, COVID-19) must be kept at home to prevent spread.
- Please inform the school immediately if your child contracts a contagious disease.
- A medical fitness certificate from a doctor is required before the student can rejoin school after recovery. The school may specify a minimum exclusion period for certain illnesses.
Student Medical Information & Allergies
- It is crucial that parents provide complete and accurate medical information about their child at the time of admission and update it annually or whenever there is a change.
- Inform the school in writing about any allergies (food, medication, environmental), chronic illnesses (asthma, diabetes, epilepsy), or other special health needs your child may have.
- Provide details of any emergency procedures or specific care required for your child's condition.
First Aid Facilities
The school maintains a well-equipped first-aid station/infirmary to provide immediate care for minor injuries and illnesses. Trained staff are available to administer first aid. For serious medical situations, parents will be contacted, and appropriate emergency procedures will be followed.
Parental Cooperation & Responsibility
- Ensure emergency contact numbers provided to the school are always current and reachable during school hours.
- Promptly pick up your child if they become ill or injured at school.
- Adhere to the school's policies regarding illness, medication, and contagious diseases.
- Communicate openly with the school about any health concerns related to your child.
In Case of Medical Emergency
The school will attempt to contact parents/guardians immediately. If unreachable, the school authorities will take necessary action in the child's best interest, which may include transport to the nearest hospital.
